The Success Equation

It's simple...

Success is an equation.

Do you want more money?

Do you want to get jacked?

Do you want to do what you love for a living?

This equation will show you how to do those and much more.

Here it is:

Plan + Execution + Iteration = Success

If you have big goals for your life, but you aren't making progress — this equation will explain why.

Let's dive in...

The Success Equation

Before I tell you this story, you have to promise not to laugh, okay?

You promise?

Okay good.

In 2020, I tried to become the next big "soundcloud rapper."

Yes, I am being 100% serious.

I got rid of my bed, I slept on my roommate's floor, and I turned my bedroom into a recording studio.

I spent hundreds of hours writing, recording, and mixing rap songs.

My dream was to have a song hit 100,000 plays.

But there was one problem...

I didn't understand the success equation.

Even though I put in hundreds of hours — I didn't make much progress.

And even worse, I didn't make any money from journey as a soundcloud rapper.

I had failed.

I gave up on my rapping dream and went back to playing video games.

Fast forward to 2021.

This is the year I started playing real life like a video game.

Instead of leveling up in video games, I wanted to level up in real life.

As I thought back on my time as a gamer, I asked myself a question:

Why am I able to make fast progress on video games, but not in real life?

And that's when it hit me...

When I wanted to get better at a game, here's what I would do:

Find the best player in the world and study his gameplay.

Why not do that in real life?

So I started studying some of the most successful people in the world.

Steve Jobs, Alex Hormozi, Mr. Beast, etc.

After hundreds of hours of studying, I began to notice a pattern in how these people played the game of "life."

I call it — The Success Equation

Once I found this pattern, I began applying it to my life.

The results were insane.

Instead of failing to reach my goals, like my rapping career, I started making real progress for the first time in my life.

Using this equation I managed to:

  • Start my first successful online business.

  • Quit my 9-5 job.

  • Grow an audience.

  • Learn valuable skills.

  • Improve every aspect of my life.

But nothing will change for you if you simply know the equation...

You have to understand it.

Knowledge is easy to him who understands.

Proverbs 14:6

That is my goal of this letter...

To help you understand this equation.

Once you understand it, you will find it easy to make progress in any area of your life.

Let's begin...

1) Plan

Most people fail to succeed because they fail to plan.

Graduate high school -> Go to college -> Get a decent job...

Great plan bro.

I just have a few questions....

  • Is this your plan? — or was is forced on you by your parents and the education system?

  • Does this plan actually line up with your dreams? — or does it lead to you settling for a mediocre life?

Most people dream of unconventional success yet they follow the conventional path.

I know because that was me.

I followed that exact plan.

It wasn't until after I graduated college that I finally started to realize:

The conventional path will never take me to my goals.

But don't take this the wrong way.

There is nothing wrong with a conventional path — If that's what you want for your life.

The problem is some people don't want that.

And since they don't ever create a plan to achieve what they actually want, they end up settling.

But I don't want you to be one of those people, so let's go over how to craft your plan for success.

A great plan requires 3 things:

1 - A Goal

  • Setting a clear goal creates purpose and focus.

  • The more clarity you have on your true desires, the clearer the path will be to get there.

  • When your goal lines up with your true desires, you will become motivated.

  • Write out a meaningful goal you want to achieve in the next 3 years.

2 - Research

  • With a clear goal, you can begin figuring out a path to reach it.

  • The best way to do this by studying people who have already achieved what you want.

  • Spend at least 100 hours studying and taking notes on people who have already achieved your goal.

3 - Creativity

  • With a clear goal and some examples of how to achieve it, it's time to craft your plan.

  • Every situation is different and no one understands you better than you do.

  • It is up to you to create a plan for your life based on your research and situation.

  • Spend 30 minutes a day brainstorming your plan.

  • Do this every day until you have a solid plan that you can begin executing.

For example, this is what I did in 2021...

I set a goal to become a multi-million dollar stock trader.

I then spent over a thousand hours (I've tracked every one of those hours) researching and studying other millionaire traders.

I created a specific plan for myself that will lead to the completion of my goal.

Two years later, and I am still executing on that plan and have made substantial progress.

But the perfect plan won't "pop" into your head randomly.

You have to spend time researching — surrounding yourself with new ideas and possibilities.

Then you need to think.

You need to give your brain time to piece together your plan.

If you follow these steps you will come up with a great plan to take you to your goals.

Once you have a plan, it's time to execute...

2) Execution

During the exectution phase — it's time to grind.

Execution requires a different state of mind from the planning and iterating phases.

Those phases require more creativity, execution requires focus.

Once you have you plan outlined, you need to execute that plan daily.

Here's how to do that:

  • Set clear weekly & daily tasks. (Here is my custom planner.)

  • Remove ALL distractions. (And I mean ALL.)

  • Do the freaking work.

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it — If you can't do this, you will not be successful.

Why?

Because the world is competitive and there are people like me who are willing to do whatever it takes.

If you can't sacrifice video games and scrolling on your phone, you won't make it very far.

But if you can, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

So grow up, decide your dreams are more important than video games or TikTok, and get the work done.

With consistent execution on a thought-out plan, you are almost there.

All you need now is...

3) Iteration

Iteration is a real-life cheat code.

When you learn how to iterate, you learn how to win at life.

But KJ, what does iteration even mean?

Here is an example:

Two kids wanted to get better at shooting a basketball.

One kid goes to the gym and shoots 500 basketballs a day.

The other kid also shoots 500 basketballs a day, but he records each session.

Every night he watches the footage, compares his form to pro basketball players, and make notes on how he can improve.

The next session he works on improving his form based on the notes he had made the night before.

He iterates.

Iteration happens when you reflect on your process and make improvements.

Iteration turns your progress from linear to exponential.

I'm sure you can guess which kid became a better shooter.

We can look at Mr. Beast as a real world example.

He iterates on EVERY single video.

He asks himself “How can I make the next video better?” after every upload.

At first, the improvements were small.

But after iterating on thousands of videos over multiple years, he is now the most watched creator on the planet.

Iteration is the key to exponential success.

Most people never iterate because it requires you to think.

It requires you to take a step back, reflect on everything you do, and create innovative ideas on how you can improve.

Here's a simple way to do it:

  • Grab a notebook.

  • Write on the top of your page: How can I improve _____ ?

  • Brainstorm for 30 minutes and write down every idea.

  • Take the best ideas and implement them.

  • Repeat this process frequently.

I do this with each of these newsletters.

You might not notice the difference now, but after iterating on a hundred of these letters, the progress will be insane.

I will become a much better writer.

With a great plan, consistent execution, and frequent iteration...

Anything is possible.

So to recap:

1) Create a plan.

  • Set a clear goal that excites you.

  • Study people who have accomplished that goal.

  • Craft a plan based on what you learned from your research and your current situation.

2) Execute.

  • Create daily/weekly actions based on your goal.

  • Remove ALL distractions.

  • Do the work.

3) Iterate.

  • Grab a notebook and pen.

  • Write on the top of your page: How can I improve "x" ?

  • Brainstorm for 30 minutes and write down every idea.

  • Take the best ideas and implement them.

  • Repeat this process frequently.
